Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 30, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Athlonist, operated by Mahan Dadouei ("Athlonist", "we", "us", or "our"), handles information when you use:

  • the Athlonist mobile application (the "App"), and
  • the website at athlonist.ca (the "Website").

Together, these are the "Service."

If you have questions, contact us at athlonist.app@gmail.com.

1. Summary

  • ✓ We do not require an account.
  • ✓ We do not operate servers that collect your health data.
  • ✓ Your App data is stored locally on your iPhone.
  • ✓ We do not sell your personal information.
  • ✓ We do not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers in the App.
  • ✓ Apple Health data is accessed only if you grant permission, and only read by the App.

2. Information We Handle

2.1 Information you provide in the App

Depending on how you use Athlonist, this may include:

  • Profile information — such as name, age, sex, height, weight, fitness goals, experience level, workout preferences, and notification preferences.
  • Manual health entries and overrides — values you enter or adjust yourself (e.g. sleep, heart rate, HRV, activity, steps, workouts).
  • Wellness check-ins — mood, feelings, daily notes, and tags.
  • Nutrition and hydration logs — foods, drinks, calories, macros, caffeine, electrolytes, and custom food items you create.
  • App-generated data — readiness scores, recovery/strain calculations, biological age estimates, achievements, streaks, character/level progress, and coaching insights derived from your inputs and permitted health data.

This information is stored on your device, not on Athlonist servers.

2.2 Information from Apple Health (HealthKit)

If you choose to connect Apple Health, the App may read data such as:

  • Sleep analysis
  • Heart rate and resting heart rate
  • Heart rate variability (HRV)
  • Active energy burned
  • Step count
  • VO₂ Max
  • Apple Exercise Time and Stand Time
  • Respiratory rate and blood oxygen (when available)
  • Workout data

The App uses this data to calculate scores and show insights on your device.

We do not write to or modify your Apple Health data. HealthKit access is read-only.

You control HealthKit permissions in Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Athlonist. You can revoke access at any time.

2.3 Device permissions

The App may request:

PermissionWhy
NotificationsLocal reminders (daily check-in, streak, strain alerts, weekly summary). Scheduled on your device only.
Photo Library (Add Only)To save share cards or stickers you choose to export. We do not browse your photo library.

You can deny or revoke these permissions in iOS Settings.

2.4 Information you choose to share externally

If you use sharing features, you decide what to share via iOS share sheet, Instagram, Messages, or saving to Photos. Once shared, that content is governed by the platform you share it with (e.g. Apple, Instagram/Meta).

We do not receive a copy of what you share unless you separately send it to us (e.g. by email).

2.5 Website information

When you visit athlonist.ca, standard web/server logs may be collected by our hosting provider, such as:

  • IP address
  • Browser/device type
  • Pages visited and approximate access time
  • Referring URL

We use this only to operate and protect the Website. We do not link Website logs to your App data, because the App does not use accounts or send us your health information.

3. How We Use Information

We use information only to:

  • Provide App features (scores, trends, coaching, nutrition tracking, achievements, sharing tools).
  • Store your preferences and history on your device.
  • Send local notifications you enable.
  • Respond to support emails you send us.
  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Website.
  • Comply with law and protect the Service.

We do not use your information for:

  • Selling or renting personal information
  • Cross-app advertising profiles
  • Training AI models on your health data
  • Uploading your health data to Athlonist servers

4. Where Your Data Is Stored

App data: Stored locally on your iPhone using on-device storage (including iOS UserDefaults and similar mechanisms).

No Athlonist cloud: We do not sync your App data to our own servers. There is no Athlonist account login.

Device backups: Your data may be included in Apple iCloud Backup or local device backups if you use those Apple services. That backup is controlled by Apple, not Athlonist. We cannot access it.

Support emails: If you email us, we receive whatever you include in your message (and your email address) so we can respond.

5. Sharing of Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.

We may share information only in these limited cases:

RecipientWhenWhat
You (via your actions)When you export/share contentWhat you choose to share
AppleHealthKit, notifications, App Store, iOSAs required for those Apple services
Service providersWebsite hosting, email supportWebsite logs or support emails only — not App health data
LegalIf required by law or to protect rights/safetyOnly what is legally required

We do not share your on-device App health data with Instagram, advertisers, or data brokers.

6. Your Choices and Controls

You can:

  • Decline HealthKit access — the App still works with manual entry, though some features need Health data.
  • Revoke HealthKit access — iOS Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Athlonist.
  • Turn off notifications — in App Settings or iOS Settings.
  • Delete specific data types — in App Settings → Privacy & Data.
  • Delete all App data — use the in-app data deletion / "Danger Zone" options.
  • Uninstall the App — removes locally stored App data from your device (subject to backups you may have).

Because we do not host your App data, we cannot recover deleted data for you.

7. Data Retention

  • On-device App data: Kept until you delete it or uninstall the App.
  • Support emails: Kept only as long as needed to respond and resolve issues, unless law requires longer retention.
  • Website logs: Retained for a limited period for security and operations, then deleted or anonymized.

8. Security

We design Athlonist so your sensitive health data stays on your device. No system is 100% secure. You are responsible for:

  • Keeping your iPhone secure (passcode, Face ID, etc.).
  • Managing who can access your device.
  • Choosing what you share publicly.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact athlonist.app@gmail.com and we will take appropriate steps.

10. International Users

Athlonist is operated from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. If you use the Service from outside Canada, your information may be processed according to this Policy and applicable Canadian law. Website support communications may be handled from Canada.

11. Your Rights (Canada)

Under PIPEDA and applicable provincial privacy laws (including Ontario), you may have the right to:

  • Access personal information we hold about you (mainly support emails and Website logs — not your on-device App data, which we do not possess).
  • Request correction of inaccurate information we hold.
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent (e.g. you can revoke HealthKit or notification permissions).
  • File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or your provincial privacy regulator.

To exercise rights relating to information we hold, email athlonist.app@gmail.com. For data stored only on your device, use the in-app deletion tools or uninstall the App.

12. Third-Party Links and Services

The Service may link to third parties (e.g. Instagram @athlonist, Apple App Store). Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. We are not responsible for third-party services.

Apple's Health app and HealthKit are subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, provide notice in the App or on the Website.

Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Policy. If you disagree, stop using the Service and delete your data from the App.
